“Apple Bites for Professionals” – iOS Development Code Camp

May. 20, 2015 | by Joel Bautista | Category: Blog Post

Vibrant aspiring and current iOS developers converged last May 16, 2015 at Globe Labs Valero St., Makati City. The fruitful event was made possible through DevCon Philippines in partnership with NSCoder PH and StudySoup.

It was kicked-off by the Introduction to DevCon by Mr. Ervin Balandra – the lead for the said event which gave the participants the idea on the cause of DevCon’s existence which is mainly to “Sync, Support and Succeed.”

Followed thereafter was the introduction to the speaker and workshop by Mr. Matt Quiros a professional iOS developer and the head of NSCoder PH which is a community of Apple developers in the Philippines. They make apps for iOS, OS X, and Safari. The enthusiasm to share his knowledge on iOS apps development shows as he teaches the participants about Swift language.  Swift is an innovative new programming language for Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. Writing code is interactive and fun, the syntax is concise yet expressive, and apps run lightning-fast.  As for learning a new programming language, Matt discussed and demonstrated the syntax basics of Swift.

During the break time, Ms. Haifa Baluyos the executive director of DevCon Philippines introduced the Philippine Developer Communities which made the participants aware of the communities that they may connect with in order to collaborate with as well.

Ms. Elle Castaneda from StudySoup enlightened as on what is StudySoup is really all about particularly as being a platform for course notes which could be made profitable for contributors and we became aware of its expansion in the Philippines.

Ms. Erika Gatmaitan of Globe Labs inspired on what is Globe Labs as a venue for where developers could cultivate their skills.

The afternoon session was filled with challenged since a Mini-hackathon was held. Three developers namely Kristoffer Ferranco, Adriel Artiza and Ryan Dy surpasses the hackathon which makes them eligible for a Globe Labs Tumbler.

We are also grateful aside from making the participants’ and volunteers’ minds full of knowledge is that they have tummies full thanks to the Big Guy Pizza treat courtesy of SourSoup.

Groupie full of smiles ended the code camp.

Til next iOS Code camp! Thanks to all those who made the successful!
