AWS DevDay Cebu 2017

Oct. 02, 2017 | by Glenn Guden | Categories: Blog Post DevCon News

On September 26, the most #AWSome day in Cebu finally arrived!

AWS DevDay Cebu 2017 was a full day event aiming to provide training to developers from startup, SME and enterprise companies on topics like serverless, DevOps and ECS. The event included demos and hands-on session.

The day started early for the DevConCebu volunteers as they prepped to take on their respective roles.

As the participants flocked to the registration booth, they were given breakfast and were also reminded to use the official hashtags for a chance to win some cool prizes later.

At around 8:00 AM, the University of the Philippines Cebu Performing Arts Hall began to fill up with participants eager to learn.

The event's host is Ezra, a DevCon member from Inspire Team.

George Parrilla, territory manager of Amazon Web Services Philippines, opened the event.

The day's first session was about "Architecting and Developing on AWS" by Seon Yong Park.

Next up was Eng Hwa Tan talking about "Amazon ECS".

During the morning break, our friends from Arcanys, Earl and Mich, talked about their amazing company.

Seon Yong returned to the stage to talk about "AWS SDKs".

The participants enjoyed a hearty lunch.

Nessa and Amel of Globe myBusiness perked up the afternoon session with a game.

Globe myBusiness provided WiFi during the event.

A discussion about "Serverless and X-Ray" was given by Eng Hwa.

Seon Yong gave a talk about "DevOps on AWS".

During the afternoon snacks break, the participants did not only grab food, but also free AWS Code Credits.

AWS shirts await some lucky participants.

Ezra announced the early bird awardees.

The extra excitement of these participants is indeed commendable.

Some social media enthusiasts were also rewarded for actively using the official hashtags.

Shirts were also given to the raffle winners.

Eng Hwa engaged the participants during the hands-on session.

The participants used the free AWS code credits to build a serverless web application.

Everyone who brought a business card were qualified to win a cool notebook from Globe myBusiness.

Even in today's digital era, a tangible business card is still a nice thing to have, especially if you'll get a prize.

As the raffle resumed, more lucky raffle winners brought home AWS shirts.

George thanked everyone and closed the event.

AWS DevDay Cebu 2017 was co-organized with DevConCebu, with the support of some local I.T. players.

The DevConCebu volunteers were glad to help AWS Philippines in making the event a big success.

Thanks to the organizers, sponsors, participants and everyone who lent a helping hand.

We would like to give our heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors: Arcanys, Inspire Team and Globe myBusiness.

We also greatly appreciate the assistance of Ng Khai Development Corporation and DreamSpace for the fruition of the event.

'Til next time. You guys are all #AWSome!
