May. 18, 2017 | by Michael Daryl Mayo |

DevelopersConnect Philippines launched its first Campus DevCon at Meridian International College (MINT) last April 26, 2017 at McKinley, Taguig. The event is part of the MINT IT/CS week that took place last April 24 – 28 with the theme “Press Start To Play”.

The first speaker, Ibba Bernardo, kick-started the event. Mr. Bernardo is the C.E.O. of Sari Software Solutions. He discussed to the participants how to begin their own startups, providing tips on how to materialize their ideas and how to turn them into a profitable venture. Mr. Bernardo also shared with them his own experience in starting his own business with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). He also introduced the participants these technologies. He ended his talk with the words “MR is the future, AR is tomorrow, VR is today,”.

Shortly after Mr. Bernardo, our DevCon lead for this event Mr. Elross John Pangue introduced DevCon to our MINT participants. Mr. Pangue shared to them the events DevCon is hosting, inviting them to DevCon Summit 2017 which will take place on October 27-28 at SMX Convention Center.

After the introduction, Krishia Pauline Ellis, a Software Engineer and Product Development Head at Astrid Technologies, also discussed on how to turn an idea into a startup. Ms. Ellis shared to everyone her experiences on mobilizing her ideas as a Product Development Head of Astrid. She also talked about the tools the participants can use, such as the Facebook analytic tools in which she showed a demo on how DevCon uses it to manage its public page.

The next speaker is Flordeliza Fernandez. She is a lecturer at FEU Cavite on “Business Analytics”. Ms. Fernandez talked about “Big Data” and discussed on how can it be helpful to a business. She also discussed how the participants can take advantage of this so that they can use it in their ventures.

Mr. Fernando Nicolei Lozano Esperida also talked in the event. He showed everyone a demo on how to develop games using Buildbox. Mr. Esperida also created the game “bulalord” that had been trending on 2014 when he was still a high school student. He shared to the participants his story and how he got featured to a local news channel after he developed the said game. He is now a Senior High school Student at Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila.

Last but not the least is Ms. Niña Ana Marie Jocelyn Sales. Ms. Sales is a Chairperson of Game Development at iAcademy. Ms. Sales discussed about game development and what it takes to develop a game and enter this field. She shared her life story on how she became a game developer from being a doctorate in business. Ms. Sales said that for someone to create a successful game, it should have a story. “Game development is all about hugot,” she said, “It is like telling a story”. “Game Development is for everyone,” as she encouraged the participants to try entering the field of game development.

And that’s it! Thank you MINT Geek Force for partnering with us in this event. ‘Til next time!
