Over 26 mobile development enthusiasts participated at Xamarin Code Camp for Professionals held at Seer Technologies Inc. in Taguig last Saturday, July 8, 2017. In partnership with Mobile .Net Developers Philippines and Seer Technologies, Inc., Xamarin Code Camp is a full day seminar and workshop for developers that aims to use Xamarin development platform build up mobile development skills.
Introduction to DevCon
The code camp opened by the event lead, Harry Angelo Soer, with a brief overview about DevCon Philippines.
Microsoft MVP and Xamarin MVP Michael John Peña presented the opportunities in using Xamarin for mobile application development. He has noted that aside from having more than a million Xamarin developers, it has good resources and community.
The next speaker, Christian Nicolas Zabala, Microsoft Certified Innovative Educator and Junior Software Developer at Clink IT Solutions, talked about the features of Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, some of which are live unit testing and improved navigation controls.
Subsequently, Mark Deanil Vicente, programmer at Any Network Systems Incorporated, presented Xamarin.Forms, a cross-platform library that allows developers to “write once, run everywhere, and be native.”
Afterwards, Xamarin Certified Developer Nathaniel Brion Sison talked about Microsoft Cognitive Services and how it can be used for mobile development, such as an application for the visually impaired.
Then Bryan Anthony Garcia, Software Engineer at Avanade, discussed about Localization and Accessibility, and Model-View-ViewModel pattern.
For the hands-on session, Mark Deanil Vicente demonstrated to create a simple weather application using the OpenWeatherMap API.
For this event’s hackathon, the first three participants to finish the weather application will bag some goodies.
Moreover, the social media posting contest winners also brought home some freebies.
And that ends this year’s Xamarin Code Camp. Stay tuned for more workshops.
